Myopia Management in Lithonia & Marietta, GA

Slowing Nearsightedness in Kids at Our Walmart-Based Eye Clinics

If your child’s glasses prescription keeps changing every year, it may not be typical vision development. It could be progressive myopia. Nearsightedness worsens over time and can lead to long-term eye health risks if left untreated.

At Lithonia Family Eyecare and Eyecare of Marietta, we offer myopia management for children in Stonecrest, Marietta, Kennesaw, and surrounding communities. We help families slow down vision changes with treatment plans that are realistic, affordable, and easy to follow.

What Is Myopia & Why It Matters

Myopia, or nearsightedness, means your child can see things up close but struggles with distance vision, such as reading the board in class or seeing clearly while playing sports. It often begins between the ages of six and 12 and worsens over time if left unmonitored.

Our clinics in Stonecrest (located inside Walmart on Fairington Road) and Marietta (located inside Walmart on Cobb Parkway SE) diagnose and monitor myopia early, helping families avoid complications down the line. Progressive myopia raises your child’s lifetime risk for serious eye conditions like:

  • Retinal detachment
  • Glaucoma
  • Cataracts
  • Macular degeneration

The sooner we begin myopia control, the better the long-term outcomes will be.

Signs Your Child Might Have Progressive Myopia

We often see patients in Lithonia, Conyers, Marietta, and nearby areas whose vision is changing more quickly than expected. Your child may not tell you their vision is blurry, but common signs of worsening myopia include:

  • Sitting close to the TV or holding books close to the face
  • Squinting to see clearly at a distance
  • Complaints of headaches, tired eyes, or blurry vision at school
  • Avoiding sports or struggling to see while playing
  • Needing a new or stronger prescription each year

If this sounds familiar, we encourage you to schedule a myopia evaluation at our Lithonia or Marietta office.

Myopia Treatment in Stonecrest & Marietta

At both locations, we offer Atropine therapy, a once-daily eye drop used at bedtime to slow the progression of myopia. This treatment is well-researched, easy to use at home, and often effective for school-age children who are still growing.

Our optometrists will explain how Atropine works, how long treatment may last, and what we will monitor at follow-up visits. If your child is a better candidate for another option, such as ortho-k overnight lenses or MiSight® soft contacts, we will connect you with a local provider and help coordinate care.

Insurance, Cost & Medicaid Coverage

We accept Georgia Medicaid, CareSource, Amerigroup, Peach State, Medicare, and most commercial plans. Eye exams and testing for myopia are often covered, but Atropine therapy may require out-of-pocket payment.

Our team will always explain what your plan includes before starting any treatment. If your family uses Medicaid in Lithonia or Marietta, we’ll walk you through your coverage and treatment options. You’ll get clear answers with no pressure.
